Partner, [Jarred West](https://spoor.com/our-people/jarred-west/), spoke to [702](https://www.primediaplus.com/station/capetalk) and [Cape Talk](https://www.primediaplus.com/station/capetalk) about the growing concerns around influencers promoting fake luxury and why regulators are starting to take action.

Dupes, short for “duplicates”, are products that closely imitate well-known luxury brands and are frequently promoted on TikTok, Instagram and other social media platforms—often at a fraction of the original price. Although SARS is primarily responsible for tax and customs enforcement, it is increasingly broadening its focus to stop fake luxury fashion and beauty products from gaining online traction before they go viral. This shift is particularly significant given the continued prevalence of counterfeit luxury goods in South Africa and the growing influence of social media personalities in driving online consumer sales.

The Money Show is a podcast hosted by well-known journalist and radio presenter, Stephen Grootes. He explores the latest economic trends, business developments, investment opportunities, and personal finance strategies.
