一段时间以来，塞拉利昂的商标法一直存在一定程度的混淆。 2014 年，新的《商标法》生效，取代了旧的《商标法》第 244 章。

新立法显着更新了商标法。带来的变化之一是现有的分类系统 - 旧的英国系统包括 50 类商品但没有服务 - 被尼斯分类系统取代。另一个是续期期限从14年减少到标准的10年。

但从未颁布实施条例，从技术上讲，这意味着新法律尚未生效。但它肯定正在被应用。不久前，注册官向注册处工作人员发出口头指示，要求其应用自 2018 年 1 月 15 日起生效的新法案。

因此，正在应用尼斯分类，并且注册证书现在反映的是 10 年期限，而不是 14 年期限。

### 虽然这种说法的正确性值得商榷，但现在的情况如下：

- 10 年续展期限将自动适用于所有提交的新商标申请* 后* 2018 年 1 月 15 日。
